MEASURING CHARACTER SIZE FROM STAMPED PARTS

When trying to determine the correct character size from impressions in a stamped part, there is a tendency to over estimate and order a larger stamp size than needed.

***Always*** measure character size from the top center to bottom center of the marked character impression.

The above illustration shows how the same size “E” hand stamp can appear when struck by a light, medium, and heavy hammer blow. The harder the stamp is hit into the object marked, the deeper the indentation, and the larger the character appears to become. This visual affect often causes people to purchase stamp characters one size larger than they actually want.
